SCREEN PRINT FAQ

Is there a maximum number of colours that can be screen printed?
There is no maximum. We can print as many colours as your artwork requires. One of the main factors in costing an edition is the number of print colours.

What is the largest you can print?
We are very comfortable printing A1 and 24”x36”. B1 (70cm x 100cm) is also acceptable, but print technicalities would need to be discussed.

Do you supply the paper?  Can I supply my own paper?
We almost always supply the paper. We have papers that we trust to get the best from the screen print process, and will always recommend what we think is best for your work.
If you do have a preference, or paper you'd like to supply, then let us know and we'll talk it through.

Do your screen charges cover artwork separation?
Afraid not — the screen charges relate purely to the necessary production of screens for print (each print colour requires its own screen).

If your artwork is well presented and easy to prep for screen, we always prefer to do the artwork separation ourselves.  It generally speeds up our work and allows greater consistency and accuracy on-press, and for this basic preparation there is no charge.

Artwork that requires more in-depth separation will be charged at £35 per hour. The requirement for this service will always be discussed prior to any work commencing.

What sort of inks do you use?
We are specialists in the use of water-based inks. They have great light-fastness and permanence, and they don't create a work environment that is unbearable for us to exist in (which is nice).
We do carry a range of special effect inks, some of which are solvent-based. The use of these would always be discussed before your edition is produced.

Is there a minimum edition size / print run?
There is no minimum. We are happy to screen print editions of one. Costs upon application.

However, screen print cannot be offered on a made-to-order or on-demand basis, and we only ever produce editions of one when it is either a genuine one-off or a proof.

How long do you keep my screens?
We keep your screens available for 6 months, from the first time they were used to produce an edition. Beyond this time, there is a re-exposure charge of £15 per screen.

Do you deliver?
We use UPS for national Next Day deliveries and all international services. Your edition will be packed supremely well, to guarantee its arrival in pristine condition.

The cost of packing and shipping will be included in your quote.

How can I get a quote?
Email us directly with your brief. To send you an accurate cost, the crucial information we need is:

-  Number of colours in the artwork (or send the artwork or a WIP)
-  Number of prints required (edition size)
-  Size of artwork (final trim size)
-  Your location on the planet

How can I supply artwork?
You can email us your artwork directly, or send via a service such as WeTransfer or DropBox Transfer.

Photoshop or Illustrator files will ideally be supplied in straight 'psd' and 'ai' formats, though editable PDFs are also acceptable. Flattened JPEGs are not desirable when separation is required.

Files should be set to RGB (Adobe RGB 1998 colour profile) for all spot-colour jobs, and CMYK if we are looking to print in four colour process.

For full-bleed images, please supply with a minimum of 3mm bleed.

Please always leave your artwork layered where possible, and always scale images to your desired print size.

We are happy to offer advice on artwork scale/composition if you are unsure. Similarly, if you are unsure whether your file is acceptable or not, never fear — just send us what you have and we'll let you know straight away whether it's useable.

What is your turnaround?
Turnaround is discussed on a job-by-job basis, as there are many factors to consider, i.e artwork complexity, edition size, your release schedule or exhibition deadline, etc.

We are a team of two who run a very busy print studio, where the nature of the work means that our schedule changes with great regularity. Please bear with us while we give your edition the time it requires.

GICLÉE FAQ

What is the largest you can print?
We can print up to 44” (111cm) wide and virtually any length.

Do you supply the paper?  Can I supply my own paper?
We always supply the paper for our giclée prints. Unlike with screen print, where we can print onto just about anything, the papers for giclée printing are a little more specialist.

Do you charge anything to process my artwork?
We have a flat rate of £25 to balance colours and run an in-house proof.
If your artwork requires more in-depth preparation, this will be charged at £35 per hour. The requirement for this service will always be discussed prior to any work commencing.

What sort of inks do you use?
Our Canon PRO-4000 uses a set of 12 Lucia Pro inks, which is a high longevity pigment ink system of archival quality, with a permanence rating of 119 years.

Is there a minimum edition size / print run?
There is no minimum. We are happy to print editions of one. Costs upon application.
Unlike screen print, giclée printing can be offered on a short-order basis. If you think this is what you need, drop us a line.

Do you deliver?
We use UPS for national Next Day deliveries and all international services. Your edition will be packed supremely well, to guarantee its arrival in pristine condition.

The cost of packing and shipping will be included in your quote.

Do you keep a record of my print job?
Yes, once your artwork has been proofed, the information and settings are logged and recorded for any future run-on edition. This is especially crucial when splitting an edition into smaller blocks of multiples, or when producing made-to-order batches — in these instances it is essential that colour values are maintained from one print run to the next.
